I read the 137th chapter of Psalms this morning. As I read it, I could see some striking parallels between the temple period of Israel and the US today. Leading up to the fall of Jerusalem, the kings had stripped the temple of everything of value to pay tribute thereby becoming a vassal nation. Today, our land is stripped financially to pay a debt so grossly engorged that it would take centuries to pay it off – if ever. The kings followed evil paths, priests of Israel had abandoned their positions and, the people had become completely sinful following every idol and every god of the surrounding nations. Today, the fabric of our nation has been torn to pieces over ideals and wants, our children are left to fend for themselves in the hell holes we laughingly call schools, and there is no peace in our nation. Moses in his parting words to the nation gave detail about what a cursed nation looks like and we would be wise to read those words (Deuteronomy 28:15-68). The writer of Psalms 137 asks “How can we sing the songs of the Lord in a foreign place” (vs 4)? America, how will we sing those songs as we look across the nation? The problems in our nation are not a “Trump” problem, a Democrat or Republican problem, black or white, a woman or a man problem it is a national disgrace problem and it is called “sin”. The 137th chapter could have been much different had the nation awoken to what they were doing and turned back. What song will we sing today? Yours in prayer
