The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and the One who rescues me; My God, my rock and strength in whom I trust and take refuge; My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower—my stronghold. I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; And I am saved from my enemies. The cords of death surrounded me, And the streams of ungodliness and torrents of destruction terrified me. The cords of Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead) surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me. In my distress [when I seemed surrounded] I called upon the LORD And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice from His temple, And my cry for help came before Him, into His very ears. Then the earth shook and quaked, The foundations of the mountains trembled; They were shaken because He was indignant and angry (Psalms 18:2-7).
Distress and troubles are a constant evolution that fills the life of mankind. G_d does not stop troubles from coming to our doors, He helps us to deal with them so that we grow stronger for the battles that face our lives. In the waning hours before the terrible crucifixion, Jesus prayed that it was possible for this hour to pass without the crucifixion occurring, please let it but understood that it was not his will but His will that mattered (Luke 22:39-46). In the same way, when we face trials that come to shake our faith, will stand in faith like Job or run away like Judas?
Thank you for all that you provide in our lives today. Because we are flesh and blood, we are susceptible to failure no matter who we are or how strong our faith is. Peter was faithful to you but still ran away when his life was in danger but you restored him. I pray for my family and families today that you will keep them no matter what trail they are facing. You are faithful and you are just. May your good spirit guide us today.
The [spiritually ignorant] fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they have committed repulsive and unspeakable deeds; There is no one who does good. The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the children of men To see if there are any who understand (act wisely), Who [truly] seek after God, [longing for His wisdom and guidance] (Psalms 14:1-2).
This is a stark statement that should shock people out of their darkness but not too many get the message. It doesn’t shock me because the world has its ways but I do not need to be part of it. G_d’s word through Jesus was “Whosoever” which means anybody who hears the message through their spiritual ears and conscientiously chooses to follow that truth will know it and it will indwell within their hearts (John 8:31-32). In the book of Proverbs, there are two women that stand to call people to their table and they are Foolishness and Wisdom. Each of the two has an agenda and depending on who I listen to, will greatly depend on the path I will take.
You lay before me and the world today the choice as to which path I/we will take. You have never sugar-coated your word and sin is still sin. May I walk before you today in all that do. Thank you for my family and families and the writing ministry you have given me.
The wicked crush [their prey] and crouches; And the unfortunate fall by their mighty claws. They say to themself, “G_d has [quite] forgotten; He has hidden His face; He will never see our deeds” (Psalm 10:10-11).
It is unfortunate that we do not get justice as we think we deserve. There is an inherent problem with living in the US today, the wicked get what the righteous think they deserve. G_d knows our heart and is not blinded by our tears nor shaken at our laments when He knows what our part was in the conflict. Babylon crushed Israel, the Edomites and Tyre rejoiced in Israel’s fall but Israel/Judah had misused what was provided and became proud. In the end, all sides paid the price for sin.
Thank you for a new day. for my family and families, for all that you have blessed me with. Help me to consider the fall of the wicked and consider that as they fell so, I can also fall. May your good Spirit guide me today and always.
The kings of the earth take their stand, And the rulers take counsel together Against the LORD and His Anointed (the Davidic King, the Messiah, the Christ), saying, “Let us break apart their [divine] bands [of restraint] And cast away their cords [of control] from us.” He who sits [enthroned] in the heavens laughs [at their rebellion]; The [Sovereign] Lord scoffs at them [and in supreme contempt He mocks them] (Psalms 2:2-4).
We are given no control over the people of the earth. As parents, we are responsible for our children that is, their upbringing, setting the moral compass before them. When our children go out into the world, they are endowed with the choice to follow the moral compass we set early in life or follow the ways of the world. In G_D’s word, we see many examples of failed leadership, communities in collapse, and people’s lives on the verge of destruction. From these examples, we are given the choice “be mocked” or “be uplifted,”
Thank you for every day of our lives. You are the Alpha (the beginning) and the Omega (the ending) of our faith. From the world, we receive phony food and fraudulent offers but in you, we receive food that feeds our empty spirits (John 6:55-58). Oh Lord our Lord how awesome is your name in all of the earth. I will sing of your majesty” (Psalms 8:2).
You made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen, And also the beasts of the field, The birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, Whatever passes through the paths of the seas. O LORD, our Lord, How majestic and glorious and excellent is Your name in all the earth (Psalms 8:6-9)!
G_d’s intention for mankind is that he/she would have dominion in the land or the place he calls us to. We are called to be stewards of G_d’s gift what we do as stewards will either be a good or bad gift to G_d sort of like the case of Cain and Able (Genesis 4:3-6). As children of the Living G_d, we should strive to please Him so that when we face Him, it will be “Well done though good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:33). What we have in this land does not belong to us so we must take care of it so that it can be handed down to another generation.
Thank you for this new day and the land and resources you give us dominion over. May you be pleased with what I do and how I do it.
Have mercy on me and be gracious to me, O LORD; See how I am afflicted by those who hate me, You who lift me up from the gates of death, That I may tell aloud all Your praises, That in the gates of the daughter of Zion (Jerusalem) I may rejoice in Your salvation and Your help (Psalms 9:13-14).
The Cross of Calvary is the end of sin because the person being impaled is paying for their crime(s). To the person who forgives the penitent, it is the end of their pain, and a new life can begin. To the person who doesn’t, it is a daily reminder of the pain the person inflicted and the chapter never ends. Forgiveness is not easy because it implies “forgoing any right to retribution”. When we forgive, the weight of the pain will lift in time.
Help me daily to forgive those who sin against me. Help me to forgive myself for the things I have done to others. Forgiving is not a native trait to mankind so it must be a learned behavior. We learn best by real-world experience. May I rejoice in your gates daily as I let go of the pain?
I said, “I will guard the ways that I may not sin with my tongue; I will muzzle my mouth While the wicked are in my presence” (Psalms 39:1).
The time to promise or be in covenant with G_d on what we will say is, before the battle. Once we are in the heat of the battle, we say things that we most often do not mean. When I was on the phone with a bank representative, I said some things that I later regretted. I was not prepared for that call and it was for that reason that the call got out of hand. it is easy to say, “well I will never see them so I can say whatever I want to and maybe even curse at them.” The thing is, “words hurt the speaker and the listener”.
Please help me to put a guard over my mouth so that I do not speak thoughtlessly (Psalms 141:3). Words hurt people though they do not tell people about it. Every person on this planet is yours, Lord and they are children of the Living G_d. Help me to have the courage to step up to encourage lives for your kingdom and be a voice in the darkness. May you be pleased with me today and every day.
Yours in Christ Jesus
In the morning, O LORD, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will prepare [a prayer and a sacrifice] for You and watch and wait [for You to speak to my heart]. For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness; No evil [person] dwells with You (Psalm 5:3-4).
We have a daily choice to make and that is, “live for the Lord or live for the world”. When we begin our morning seeking the face of the Lord, he directs the course of our life. When we begin our morning focused on what the world wants from us, it will sap our strength until we become beaten down and defeated.
In the morning Lord, I set my life before you. I know that you are Holy Righteous and Just. Help me as I face my day to honor you in all my ways. You give me the ultimate control of which direction to take, who I take with me, and the quality workmanship I put into the building of my life. I pray for my family, city, state, and nation today as I know the Devil is hard at work setting up traps to destroy your children. May your good Spirit lead me today and always.
The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The thoughts and plans of His heart through all generations. Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people whom He has chosen as His own inheritance (Psalm 33:11-12).
G_d’s plan is and has always been to bless those who will serve Him with a humble heart. The problem is that we have “free will” that is, the power of choice. Who are “the chosen”? It is those who with a humble and contrite heart will follow Him not looking to line their pockets or develop a power center (Micah 6:6-8). Following Jesus’ path is a personal choice and cannot be pushed or detracted from by legislation. At issue is that as surely as a nation can be blessed, it can also be cursed by our choices of the populace. so, we either be a Daniel (Daniel 9:2-3) or a Dathan (Exodus 32:1-2), can either be Jerusalem or Sodom/Gomorrah.
I pray for my nation today in the time of your favor. I know that you desire the best for this nation and this world but, we have sinned before you and have placed gods ahead of you. I know of your anger and your blessings because I have seen both of them in my life. Today it is popular to bring down statues, deface property, and ban movies and books because it speaks “racism” but that will never wipe away the stain it will only divide the nation. Help us to see your pathway and follow it Lord to the end.
Yours IN Christ Jesus
He who sits [enthroned] in the heavens laughs [at their rebellion];
The [Sovereign] Lord scoffs at them [and in supreme contempt He mocks them]. Then He will speak to them in His [profound] anger And terrify them with His displeasure, saying, “Yet as for Me, I have anointed and firmly installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain (Psalms 2:4-6).
The world says, “there is no G_d so we can live any way we so chose to do.” When the path the world is on falls apart, many turn their eyes to G_d and say, “please forgive me”. The world will always scoff at the idea that Jesus the risen Christ has paid for the sins of mankind; so, people proudly and smugly thumb their noses at those who follow Jesus. The ringleader (the Devil) prompts his prey to the edge of the abyss and then pushes him or her into it. Consider the case of Adonijah the self-appointed replacement for David on the throne of Israel/Judah (1 Kings 1:5) and how his best plans were upended by the true king.
Thank you for today. You call each of us to live for you as that is your personal desire. Before Jesus died on the cross, he prayed the High Priestly prayer that his disciples would be with him at the end of their life but in the meantime, they had a destiny and that was to carry the message throughout the world and they couldn’t do that from the grave nor could they do it from the throneroom of G_d, it was done on earth while they lived. Help me and my readers to walk in the path of our Lord.
I have not concealed Your righteousness within my heart; I have proclaimed Your faithfulness and Your salvation. I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great assembly. Do not withhold Your compassion and tender mercy from me, O LORD; Your lovingkindness and Your truth will continually preserve me (Psalms 40:10-11).
Receiving G_d’s blessings in our life requires that we walk obediently before Him. When we are disobedient, the good that G_d wants to do in and through our life is hampered. G_d does not tell us His entire plan, He gives us snippets so that we not be overwhelmed and get lost in the details. When Abraham was promised an extremely large extended family, he was not told how it would happen just that it would which required faith and obedience. Through disobedience, a hiccup of sorts occurred that would cause future problems for Abraham’s lineage.
May I walk humbly before you today in all that I do (Micah 6:6-8)? I don’t understand everything about the Kingdom of G_d and that is by design; men and women throughout history have honored you and it was accredited for righteousness that played out in their families. It is not always possible to do what is righteous and not fail because “I am a human being” but you, O Lord, are from all eternity (Psalms 93:2). Your word is true even now more than 2000 years since it was first put in writing for mankind to read.
O LORD my God,
I cried to You for help, and You have healed me. O LORD, You have brought my life up from Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead); You have kept me alive so that I would not go down to the pit (grave).
We are given the choice of who we will allow to lead us. When we make mistakes in life, we need to make them right while we will have life in us. Once we go to the grave, we will make no more decisions, we will no longer be able to repent and make things right. The grave will either be a place of joy or a place of regret depending on the things we held onto.
Thank you for the time today to live for you. may I forgive every sin against me, live joyfully before you, and ever hold your hand. Thank you for guiding me in the path that must walk in.
O my God, in You I [have unwavering] trust [and I rely on You with steadfast confidence], Do not let me be ashamed or my hope in You be disappointed; Do not let my enemies triumph over me (Psalm 25:2).
When we put our trust in the Lord and are obedient to what He tells us to do even if what He says makes no logical sense, He will show us the way through the waters.
As we start our day today, may you be blessed by what we do and how we do it. You don’t give us any more information than we need to start our journey.
Let everything that has breath and every breath of life praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!).
we have a choice in life either live under the oppression of sin or rule over the sin. This was the essence of the Lord’s communication to Cain before he murdered Able (Genesis 4:7). When we allow sin to rule over us, it is like starting a fire and only try to put it out when the fire is raging and its thirst knows no bounds (Proverbs 30: 16-17). For this reason, we must always turn our hearts and minds to you (1 Corinthians 15:58).
For who is God, but the LORD?
Or who is a rock, except our God,
The God who encircles me with strength
And makes my way blameless?
He makes my feet like hinds’ feet [able to stand firmly and tread safely on paths of testing and trouble];
He sets me [securely] upon my high places (Psalms 18:31-33).
Aside from you, who can I entrust my most valuable treasures (My soul and my families)? If I yield my valuable treasures to mankind, I have no assurance that they will not be misused (Psalms 116:11). Thank you, Lord, for loving us through every trial of my life.
